Wie sein Lehrer Origenes fungierte auch er als Leiter der sogenannten Alexandriner Katechetenschule. Unter seinen literarischen Hinterlassenschaften, \u00fcberwiegend Briefe, findet sich die aus mehreren B\u00fcchern bestehende Schrift \u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u1f76 \u03c6\u1f7b\u03c3\u03b5\u03c9\u03c2 (de natura).<\/p>\n<p>Dieses einzig bekannte philosophische Werk des Dionysios ist uns im Wesentlichen durch Ausz\u00fcge aus dem ersten Buch bei Eusebius \u00fcberliefert. Das Erhaltene stellt eine Polemik gegen die epikureische Physik dar. Dionysios verteidigt die Vorsehung, indem er Epikurs Atomismus anhand von Alltagsbeispielen, der Harmonie des Kosmos und des menschlichen K\u00f6rpers zu destruieren sucht und die Defizite seiner Gottesvorstellung aufzeigt. Der Abhandlung geb\u00fchrt ein besonderer Platz unter den Erzeugnissen der christlichen Literatur, insofern nur hier die physikalischen Grundlagen von Epikurs Philosophie unter Einbezug christlicher Elemente in einem gr\u00f6\u00dferen Rahmen widerlegt werden.<\/p>\n<p>Ein neuer Kommentar zu \u03c0\u03b5\u03c1\u1f76 \u03c6\u1f7b\u03c3\u03b5\u03c9\u03c2 des Dionysios bildet die Grundlage f\u00fcr eine umfassende W\u00fcrdigung und Einordnung, wobei insbesondere eine Neuentdeckung zur Repr\u00e4sentativit\u00e4t des Erhaltenen die Frage nach dem Charakter der Gesamtschrift virulent werden l\u00e4sst.
