I appreciate this blog, outside of the school setting it's hard to get quality interactive philosophy.

Jumping ahead to 1938-39 lectures about Verhaltenheit / restraint (apparently controlled wondering/controlled Socratic thaumazein) to get into the strangeness of the ordinary ( essence we can't access because we are too much in existence?)? I am wondering how you see this final project in the context of his work and if you can point to anyone who has followed in this work, I am thinking maybe Adoro (with his negative dialectics)?

Also I am wondering about existence (the that-ness of concrete signs?)/essence ("the what it is" essentia) - Is this kind of idea present in Plato?

Logos as meaningful speech/consciousness(/intelligence?) is comparable to Cartesian transcendental subject?

Karen, if you are a graduate student from a co-sponsoring institution, Grand Valley State University, Michigan State or the University of Michigan, then the registration fee is waived and you will be charged $30 for the student membership fee in the APS. If you are not from one of the co-sponsoring institutions, then you will be charged $55 which includes the registration fee and membership fee. I hope we see you there!

Hi! I was just wondering what the on site registration fee for the MSU conference would be for a graduate student.

@Ron Dai I appreciate your point here, Ron. I don't think the Society means to suggest that Greek philosophy is the only ancient philosophy. The APS grew out of a tradition of scholarship rooted in the history of Western philosophy and remains largely focused on that tradition.

When I see the title "Ancient Philosophy Society" on this page I have a very intereting thought.......Obviously, by "Ancient Philosophy" you are refering to Ancient Greek Philosophy only.... I am wondering, back to more than 2000 years ago, if Aristotle of ancient Greece and Lao Tsu of ancient China knew each other at that time, would they admire each other's wisdom? I am kind of feeling that they would even though the ways they were looking at world were quite different, which was also because they did not know what the other person was thinking......

Isn't the fundamental meaning of "philosophy" the love or pursue of wisdom?....If it is so then I am quite sure Aristotle and Lao Tsu would love the wisdom of the other party.........
